PRIMARY DESCRIPTION


Gardoclean® A 5549 is a medium-duty cleaner/rust inhibitor designed for in-process metal fabrication operations when temporary indoor rust inhibition is needed. Gardoclean A 5549 is free of nitrite and other undesirable constituents present in many cleaning/rust inhibiting products. Its medium-duty detergency will remove coolants, machine oils, shop soils and many drawing compounds in immersion tanks and spray washers. Gardoclean A 5549 is unique for immersion applications, with dispersing agents which prevent redeposition of oils on parts while its non-emulsifying property allows for oil removal by skimming or Chemetall Americas Oil Eaters.


PRIMARY APPLICATION


Gardoclean A 5549 is ideal for cleaning after machining to remove metal working fluids, oils, metal chips and fines in unheated or heated tanks while providing temporary indoor rust inhibition. Having superior detergency, Gardoclean A 5549 is also the product for use in spray washers to remove difficult soils. Gardoclean A 5549 is well suited for single stage applications where rinsing is not available and/or rust inhibition is required. Gardoclean A 5549’s unique chemistry qualifies for ultrasonic and vibratory applications. It is also ideal for replacing vapor degreasing units with aqueous immersion cleaning.

Gardoclean A 5549 is also recommended for heat treating operations. It is free of silicates and caustic that can interfere with the heat treating operation. The dry organic film deposited produces no adverse effect when exposed to high temperatures making it well suited for cleaning prior to treatment. Also, Gardoclean A 5549’s oil splitting chemistry eliminates the smoke and soot created when emulsified oils left by other cleaners are heated. Following heat treatment, Gardoclean A 5549 can remove quench oils and provide temporary indoor rust inhibition, thereby producing excellent results in both operations with a single product.

METAL SAFETY
 

When used over 120°F (49°C), prolonged contact may discolor brass, copper and some aluminum alloys. Avoid use on magnesium. Brass or other copper alloys are not recommended for use with this product.


OPERATING PARAMETERS


In immersion tanks, vibratory and ultrasonic units

Concentration  -    4% to 8% by volume
Temperature    -    70°F to 160°F (21°C to 71°C)
Time                -    1 to 5 min.
Follow with air blow off. If temporary rust inhibition is desired, do not rinse. Dry parts immediately.


In Spray Washers


Concentration   -     4% to 6% by volume
Temperature     -     140°F to 160°F (60°C to 71°C) Foaming may occur under 140°F (60°C)
Time                 -     30 sec. to 3 min.
Follow with air blow off. If temporary rust inhibition is desired, do not rinse. Dry parts immediately.


NOTE: Concentrations depend on length of time and conditions (temperatures and humidity) of storage and amount and type of soils. Prior to some finishing processes, parts may require removal of protective coating with warm water (120°F) or aqueous cleaning. Parts must be completely dry prior to packing and storage.

EQUIPMENT
 

The Chemetall Americas Chemical Metering Pump can be used to automatically maintain the make-up chemical requirement of this product. If predilution is required, the Chemetall Americas water driven Proportioner can be used to automatically feed the premixed solution of this product to the process tank. Please contact the Chemetall Americas Process Equipment and Engineering Department for specific recommendations.

KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN

STORAGE

Dry indoor storage at temperatures between 40ºF and 100ºF (4.4°C and 37.8°C) is recommended, away from any incompatible materials referenced in the Material Safety Data Sheets. All containers should be tightly closed when not in use.

DISPOSAL

Any disposal of the materials referenced in this document should be in accordance with all applicable federal, state, providential and local regulations. The process solution can contain components other than those present in the materials as supplied. Analysis of process solutions may be required prior to disposal.
