Model 9 Bridge and Security Gate
  • Heavy-Duty
  • Performance-Proven
  • Select From Three Types of Arms Up To 40 Feet In Length
  • Quick-Fix Configuration, With Mast-Mounted Mechanism
  • Mounting Options Match Standard Bolt Centers
  • Complete Line Of Accessories

Introduction
Since 1917, Western-Cullen-Hayes has provided long-service-life gate arm operators and accessories for bridge and security gate applications. This experience, and that of being the major supplier of high-reliability railroad crossing gate mechanisms in North America, enables us to manufacture products that reflect the latest developments in the application of materials and electro-mechanical design.
Familiarity with the market place has resulted in a bridge and security gate that reflects heavy-duty user needs.
General
Concepts utilized in the current products include modularity. Instead of being a single piece, the Model 9 Bridge and Security Gate is composed of a clamp-type junction box base, a mast, the gate arm mechanism and a gate arm with break-away feature. This design feature takes the work out of prior- to-installation, and installation handling. It also can significantly reduce the cost of maintaining a gate operator that has been struck by a vehicle. Most times, only component replacement is required instead of replacing the entire unit.
Modularity is carried into the gate arm as well. While traditional wooden arms are available, most needs can be met with our widely used telescoping style fiberglass or aluminum/fiberglass arms. These arms have the added advantage of being retained in place by breakaway device. Upon impact, one or more shear pins break, allowing the arm to fall away before it is destroyed by the offending vehicle and limiting damage to the operating mechanism.
Our years of addressing a wide range of customer requirements has led to a marked flexibility in the configuration of the Model 9 Bridge and Security Gate. In addition to choice of arm types (including a special, hinge-tip wooden gate arm that folds up like ajack-knife to clear overhead obstructions), we offer a wide selection of gate arm lights, accessory traffic signals, warning bells and revolving beacons.

Track Circuit Probe & Accessories
Track Circuit Probe

Model 370 Track Circuit Probe
The Western-Cullen-Hayes Model 370 Track Circuit Probe was developed to simplify the process of trouble shooting problems and faults associated with track circuits of all types. This unique device detects a coded DC or AC signal that is carried by the circuit under evaluation and converts the signal into an audible tone which can be heard in the headset component of the Probe.
The audible tone can be followed through the entire circuit, thereby enabling maintenance personnel to pinpoint opens, shorts, partial opens, leaks, etc.
Operated on 9VDC transistor radio battery.
A special Probe Tone Generator is available for use with non-coded DC track circuits. Accompanying operating procedures explain the many uses of the Model 370 Track Circuit Probe.

Track Circuit Probe illustration

• Checking Hardwire Shunts
• Finding Shorts Across the Rails
• Fouling Circuit Checks
A bad hardwire shunt can be spotted immediately. If the shunt is bad the signal will continue through the rail, and not cross over at the shunt as it should.
A short across the track can be found easily by following the tone along the track until is stops. At this point, you will find the short, for the Track Circuit Probe will point directly to it. For instance, a non-insulated gauge rod can be spotted through the pavement with direct accuracy.
Fouling circuit connections and fouling circuit rails can now be positively checked for proper operation by shunting the fouling track and checking each connection and jumper.

Model 379 Tone Generator

The Western-Cullen-Hayes Model 379 Probe Tone Generator is a battery powered (6VDC, 80 rnA continuous duty, four "C" cells) unit used to generate an AC tone (650-800 Hz) into non-coded DC track circuits, for the purpose of using the Model 370 Track Circuit Probe to locate trouble spots.

    Signal Transformers
    Signal Transformer

Transformers manufactured by W-C-H are designed specifically for use in railroad signal circuits. Several types are made available to address common applications. These transformers are intended for use with 60Hz, single phase AC input current. When used with frequencies of 50Hz or 100Hz, the units will run 5 deg C -10 deg C hotter, but will suffer no reduction in available power.
    Construction
Railroad signal engineers select equipment that meets exacting standards for performance, throughout rigorous environmental extremes. W-C-H Signal Transformers are designed to meet these standards and are field-proven over many years of service. High efficiency is ensured through the use of silicon steel laminations. Windings are made of Formvar or polyurethane insulated wire with fiber insulation between layers. After winding, the coils are heated to remove moisture, dipped in varnish and baked. Standard Terminals are used on all Transformers.
