IMO News Alert: The 78th session of the Maritime Safety Committee has adopted amendments to change the number of immersion suits to be carried on cargo vessels including bulk carriers. The amendment introduces new requirements for one immersion suit per person on board. Scheduled to enter into force July 2006.
Ship Board Inspection of Immersion Suits SOLAS Ch. III, Reg 20.7 and 36 call for the monthly inspection of life-saving appliances. To assist your crew, Stearns offers a FREE CD demonstrating the proper way to inspect and repack your immersion suit. Worldwide Factory Authorized Service Stations In addition to the monthly routine shipboard inspections, IMO recommendations call for an air pressure testing of immersion suits every 3 years; more often with suits over 10 years old. Stearns is expanding our network of factory trained and authorized inspection facilities around the globe to ensure that vessels are not far from an authorized inspection and repair station. All approved service stations must pass our certified training program and conform to our guidelines as described in their training manual. They stock a full supply of repair materials and will complete the inspection and return suits to you as quickly as possible. We recommend that suits be factory inspected at regular intervals to provide the longest life possible. Please contact us for an authorized inspection and repair facilities near you .
