WHICH I.D. HOSE IS RIGHT FOR YOUR WORKSITE?
North offers hoses in two inside diameters (I.D.), 1/2" and 3/8". 1/2" hoses allow more air to pass through, allowing the use of a lower PSI at the air source. This is best for portable ambient air pumps that will not support higher PSI requirements. 3/8" 1.0. hoses are smaller and lighter. This is especially important if you need 100' or more of hose and want to minimize how much weight workers must carry around at the worksite.
1/2" = more air flow
3/8" = less weight

85300 Series Hoods
85300 Series Hoods
85300 Series Hood Assemblies
Many workers appreciate the freedom hoods provide, employers appreciate not needing to fit test. Because hoods do not have a facepiece to face seal, you can accommodate workers with facial hair and prescription glasses - plus fit testing is not required. Because hoods are disposable, your clean up is also easier. Ideal for use in extremely dusty environments, for paint spray operations or other applications where respirators get dirty quickly. NIOSH approved with an APF of 1000.

Assigned Protection Factor for Hoods

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) published new Assigned Protection Factors (APF) for all respirators in September, 2006. The new APF Table assigns two possible protection factors for supplied air and powered air-purifying hoods. All hoods now have an APF of 25 unless conditions outlined in footnote 4 from OSHA's Assigned Protection Factor Table are met.

FOOTNOTE FROM OSHA TABLE ON ASSIGNED PROTECTION FACTORS
The employer must have evidence provided by the respirator manufacturer that testing of these respirators demonstrates peliormance at a level of protection of 1,000 or greater to receive an APF of 1,000. This level of peliormance can best be demonstrated by peliorming a WPF* or SWPF study or equivalent testing. Absent such testing, all other PAPRs and SARs with helmets/hoods are to be treated as loose-fitting facepiece respirators, and receive an APF of 25.
WPF: Workplace Protection Factor
SWPF- Simulated Workplace Protection Factor

RESULTS
A minimum fit factor of 10,000 is required for the higher APF of 1,000 Primair Plus, All 10 subjects achieved fit factors in excess of 50,000
85300 Series, non-bib All 10 subjects achieved fit factors in excess of 70,000
85300 Series, with bib Lawrence Livermore Lab tests achieved fit factors averaging above 50,000
CONCLUSION
North by Honeywell has demonstrated that the North 85300 Series supplied air hoods, both with and without bib, and the Primair Plus PAPR hood have achieved the protection factors required for an OSHA APF of 1,000.

Couplers

North hoses are available for both 3/8" I.D. and 1/2" I.D. in 12-1/2', 25', 50', and 100' lengths. North offers Hansen, Schrader and Snap- Tite Quick Connect Couplers for connecting the hose to the facepiece or breathing hood, and the air source.
Warning: If more than one hose is required, join the hoses together. Do not use couplers between hose lengths. Only one 12-1/2 ft. or 25 ft. length of hose should be used in combination with any hose length to a maximum of 300 ft. OSHA requires that couplers not be interchangeable with any couplers used for non-breathing air or gas systems.
