INSULATED JUMPERS

FLEXIBLE JUMPER CABLE - UNIPASS EPR INSULATION/JACKET

For maximum flexibility all jumper cables use fine stranded copper conductor and a new EPR low-temperature Unipass jacket. This lightweight jumper cable has a high visibility orange jacket with excellent resistance to oil, heat, moisture, ozone, and abrasion. The cable is permanently embossed every three feet with conductor size, amperage, and kV rating.

The fine stranded copper conductor is alloy coated and assembled in a unidirectional rope lay for extra flexibility. The conductor has a semiconductor strand shield surrounding it, to relieve voltage stress and improve the dielectric strength and service life of the cable.

Cable insulation, shield and conductor are manufactured and factory tested to meet or exceed ICEA S68-516.

HOW TO ORDER AND/OR ASSEMBLE INSULATED JUMPERS

  1. Determine capacity, kV rating, and length of jumper.
  2. Select cable from those stocked.
  3. Decide on which of two types of Cable Ferrules, Shrouded or Unshrouded is desired.
  4. Select Ferrules same size as cable.
  5. Determine maximum main line size on which jumpers will be used.
  6. Refer to Jumper Clamp specifications to make a selection that accommodates the combination of Max. Main Line size, Jumper Cable size, kV and type of Ferrules used.
  7. On your order, specify Jumper Cable, Clamps and Ferrules by number and description including cable length.
  8. If factory assembly desired, specify on order and use Clamp and Ferrule catalog numbers with suffix "A". EG. 1610A, indicates 1 Pair of 1610 Clamps assembled to Cable.
  9. Ferrules are compression installed on Cable, then inserted through handles so Clamp bodies may be screwed on. Sealant treated set screw is tightened firmly against flat surface of Ferrule stud to prevent "back out". With one wrench holding Ferrule stationary, second wrench is used to torque lock nut tightly against lockwasher and clamp body so mating threads mesh for low resistance connection.

CABLE PENETRATING GROUND CLAMP

These clamps are designed to be used either as a tool for "spiking" jacketed cable verifying proper deenergization prior to opening or as a part of a grounding jumper used to bond both ends of an opened cable during work operations.

The 7/8" long plated steel point is inserted into the eye screw making a low resistant one piece spear. If the pint become blunted through repeated use, it may be sharpened or replaced with a new spear.

Clamps are aluminum body available with either smooth or serrated upper jaws. The hard aluminum serrated insert makes optimum contact with the outside stranded neutral shield of the cable.

FOR ALL POPULAR VOLTAGES THROUGH 69kV
NEW FEATURES ARE OFF/TEST - POSITIONS
AS WELL AS 3 URD "TEST POINT" POSITIONS

Test Procedures:
To assure unit is in operable condition, switch tester into 'TEST-240V" position. Tester may now be tested several different ways to verify circuitry.
    1. Place instrument head as marked against live wire outlet or equivalent above 110 volts A.C.
    2. Rub the instrument head as marked on cloth or clothing to obtain static charge. Unit will only operate intermittently.
    3. Set switch at "35kV Overhead" setting and place head of unit as marked against the spark plug of a running truck or auto engine.

Use the "BATTERY" position to verify battery circuitry and condition after unit is tested to verify voltage test circuitry.

Service & Trouble Shooting Guide:
Lamp tightness should be checked periodically. Temperature range is -24 degrees C to +70 degrees C. (-11 degrees F to + 158 degrees F) Failure of the attenuator through a damaged switch or broken transistor will cause the tester to generate at maximum sensitivity at the damaged selection. Hold base and cap together when removing the handle.
Primary Use:

Verifying Live or De-energized Overhead Conductors or Primary Elbow Test Points (P/N 4444).

These testers may be used along with Rubber Insulating Gloves or with hot sticks using the splined universal end fitting as prescribed by company work practices and/or OSHA Sub Part V requirements. Each tester consists of a 4.5 volt transistor amplifier with a VISUAL + Audio indicator and sensitivity attenuator. The switch on (P/N 4444) has 12 settings; OFF, TEST, BATTERY check, and Nine voltage settings (3 for Elbow Test Points and 6 for Overhead Lines).

IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT THE TESTER BE MOVED PROGRESSIVELY CLOSER UNTIL WARNING OF VOLTAGE IS INDICATED OR UNTIL IT TOUCHES CONDUCTOR, APPARATUS, OR TEST POINT.

Verification of "DEAD" includes testing of unit on a energized conductor of known voltage. Induced voltages on de-energized conductors are checked by increasing the unit's sensitivity.

Each tester comes complete with three alkaline "C" cell batteries. ALWAYS verify integrity of batteries and tester by following prescribed test procedures BEFORE and AFTER each use.

Warning: High voltage testing should be carried out only by trained personnel. Tester is not to be hand held in contact with voltages above 220 volts except where additional insulation provided by ASTM D-120 specification grade Rubber Gloves and ASTM F-711 or Hot Sticks are provided. URD applications are limited to test points only.

Do not assume conductors are dead or will remain de-energized! Always install proper grounding devices before working conductors! For maximum protection and to ensure long life the unit should always be stored in the protective case when not in use.
