Portable Derails

Models PD-1, PD-2, PD-3L, PD-3R

Nolan Portable Derails are available in both double-end (models PD-1 and PD-2) and single-end (models PD-3R and PD-3L) designs. Lightweight, tough, easily and quickly installed, they provide protection for track crews anywhere. All models are cast from a durable ductile alloy. Wedge-type clamps secure the derail and flag to the rail head. The 48" (1219mm) high detachable, reflectorized "Derail" blue flag, standard on all models, can be padlocked in position along with the wedge, to comply with Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) rules. Available in both right hand and left hand designs, the PD-3 is an extra heavy duty unit, made to handle steel mill billet or ladle cars, as well as other exceptionally heavy cars. Derail flags and staff assemblies are sold separately from the derails to provide the most flexibility in choosing options.

NOTE WHEN PURCHASING: Flags and staff assemblies shown in photos are priced and sold separately from Portable Derails. PD-3 Portable Derails are priced and sold in left-rail and right-rail versions; please specify PD-3-LEFT or PD 3-RIGHT when ordering. Padlocks are not included with Nolan's Derails.

HDH derail with optional SS target stand/connecting rod. (SS target stand/connecting rod sold separately)
Nolan's popular model HDH hinged derail features a 10"-wide handle as standard, making the derail easier and safer to use. The handle is cast as part of the derail head, which is made of special ductile alloy. The rugged steel base is spiked directly to the ties and is available in two sizes that will accommodate up to 140 pounds. The optional model SS target stand used with HDH and HDH-140 comes complete with connecting rod, adjustable throw arm and signal vane. Both derails utilize optional blue flags. The derails and blue flags (model HDF-2 or HDHF-2) may be padlocked in either position.

Rerailers — Model DW, SW, CW

Model DW

Model DW

The DW rerailer has a long, low-profile, two-sided design, ideal for a wide variety of equipment. With Nolan's DW, it is possible to engage derailed wheels farther from the rails than with most other designs, and wheels can be retracked from either one side or both sides. Placed with the exclusive "tie cleats" firmly against the first open tie ahead of the derailed wheels, the dual action locking wedge is driven into the front of the rerailers. The wedge prevents both sliding and tipping. The only tool required for installation is a hammer. Blocking may be necessary.

Model SW

Model SW

The SW rerailer can be spiked to the tie or clamped to the rail with an optional wedge-type locking system.* Either way, the SW is easily and quickly installed for general use to retrack all types of locomotives and cars smoothly and efficiently. The SW, like all of Nolan's rerailers, is cast in a special ductile alloy. Lugs on the underside of the units prevent sliding past the first tie.

Model CW

Model CW

The CW rerailer is designed specifically for mine, quarry, and industrial applications. Used in pairs, right and left, the special guide groove design permits retracking wheels from either or both sides simultaneously. A steel cam tightens and locks against the rail head as the car wheel tries to push the rerailer. This unit works efficiently even with unusually high or badly worn wheel flanges.

Car Stops

Model CS-60

Nolan's model CS-60 is a hinged-type car stop designed for permanent installation on either flush or exposed rails. In the raised position, the CS-60 protects workers, warehouse doors, crossover walks, etc., or it swings down out of the way. The CS-60 may be padlocked in either the up or down position.

Model CS-50

The Nolan model CS-50 is a worldwide industry stand-by used when heavy and expensive bumping posts are not required. Rugged, yet simple to handle and attach, the CS-50 utilizes four 1" (25mm) diameter bolts and two wedge-type clamping plates for mounting. As the car bumps the CS-50, the wedge design tightens its hold on the rail. No drilling is required when mounting these car stops that are cast in special ductile alloy.
