The apparatus serves as a long duration work device and an escape device as well. It is approved for respiratory protection for entry into, for extended periods, of work in and for escape from IDLH atmospheres. If used for entry into IDLH atmospheres, the airline must be connected before entry. The self contained air supply is approved for escape only. NIOSH / MSHA approved.

When the apparatus is connected to a respirable air source, the device permits the wearer to work and move freely about, within the limits of the approved hose length.

The MSA Combination Pressure Demand Breathing Apparatus features a lightweight shoulder harness, which is foam padded for extra comfort and a waist belt with a seatbelt type buckle. The handwheel of the cylinder valve is easy to grasp and operate. The breathing apparatus comes equipped with a single lens Ultravue or Ultra Elite Facepiece with speaking diaphragm and a low resistance spring loaded pressure demand exhalation valve. MSA Air Supply Hose mus be used to maintain NIOSH / MSHA approval.
