Voice Powered Communication System
| Your voice provides all the power required for communication. Most communication systems require an AC or DC power source. David Clark Company's Voice Powered system only requires your voice to generate the power needed. It is a more sophisticated mechanical version of two tin cans connected by a string. When you speak, your voice travels to a transmitter causing fluctuations in a magnetic circuit. This creates a small amount of current (approx. 20 miro amperes) which is enough to operate the recievers on up to six headsets. In its simplest application, a voice powered system can be just two headsets and a jumper cord. When greater distance is required, you add extension cords. For fixed applications, you add jack plates and cords. It's that simple. You need no external power, batteries or electricity. For portable applications up to six people, use a junction box. When proper conditions exist, two way communication is possible for miles. Voice powered communications is a simple, low cost, maintenance free system that is ideal for two to six people in moderate noise environments. |
| Sound waves strike the transmitter diaphragm and make it vibrate. Attached to the diaphragm by a shaft is a cantilever type armature which vibrates with the diaphragm. The armature is encircled by a coil of wire and is suspended between the extended poles of a pair of powerful magnets. When the armature vibrates, it moves alternately toward one pole and then the other, causing the magnetic flux to be diverted through the armature, first in one direction and then in the opposite. The expanding and collapsing magnetic field thus created sets up an EMF in the coil of wire. The current thereby generated (approximately 20 micro amperes) travels to all the receiver elements tied together by wire, where sound waves are recreated by a reversal of the above process...and you communicate. |

Headsets with Amplifier When a headset user is in an extremely noisy environment (over 100dB) his ability to hear normal voice powered transmissions may be hindered. Headset users communicating to him use the amplifier to increase their transmission volume (talk level) to his headset. |
