Fabric Facts:
Outer Shell:
All outer shell materials used by Chieftain are inherently flame resistant. An inherently flame resistant fiber derives its resistance from its natural properties. It does not wash out. The flame resistance remains consistent throughout the life of the fiber.
Nomex III A 7.5 oz.: A traditional, economical fabric with well proven abilities. Chieftain uses a 7.5 oz. fabric for improved wear resistance. Meets all requirements of NFPA and CGSB.
Advance Super Shelltite® 7.0 oz.: Advance is a blend of Nomex and Kevlar, two inherently flame resistant aramid fibers, which dramatically increases both the thermal strength and durability of the fabric. A high-performance, yet moderately priced fabric, Advance provides substantially increased Taber abrasion resistance and water absorption resistance. Due to its ripstop weave, this fabric also offers excellent tear strength and puncture resistance. Meets all requirements of NFPA and CGSB.
P.B.I. Super Shelltite® 7.5 oz.: P.B.I.® is widely recognized as the best thermally protective outer shell fabric available. It is also the most expensive to produce. P.B.I. combines the superior thermal resistance of P.B.I. fiber with the tough durability of para-aramid. It will not ignite and does not melt. It has excellent suppleness after flame exposure and excellent chemical and abrasion resistance. Meets all requirements of NPFA and CGSB.
Moisture Barrier:
The moisture barrier is designed to prevent water buildup on the inner thermal lining. Such moisture would generate steam when exposed to heat and may scald the user. Chieftain utilizes breathable moisture barriers, consisting of a microporous film supported on lightweight spunlaced Nomex or Basofil susbstrate, that are fully compliant with the NFPA requirement for effective blocking of moisture and bloodborne pathogens, while allowing perspiration to escape. Breathable moisture barriers reduce the danger of heat stress.
Thermal Liner:
The thermal liner is designed to insulate the user and provide protection against second degree burns during firefighting. It is comprised of a face cloth with layers of spunlaced Nomex insulating backup materials.
Aralite®: A very light and flexible material, Aralite offers superior insulative performance and heat stress relief. Made of para-aramid fibers, Aralite boasts excellent tear strength and TPP ratings, as well as greater comfort. Aralite exceeds NFPA, CGSB and BNQ standards.

Lime/Silver - Gold and Black PBI suits; Khaki, Gold and Black Advance suits; Black, Red, White and Tan Nomex suits; Red/Silver - Khaki and Yellow Advance suits; Yellow, White and Tan Nomex suits.
