Add flame resistant reflective striping to any Benchmark coverall, including feather weight and women's styles. Since each coverall is custom retrofitted there are many combinations available for both placement as well as the type of flame resistant reflective material available. Below are examples of our "standard" striping pattern in silver. However, pick and choose any combination to meet your requirement.

Silver
The reflective silver striping is flame resistant and offers excellent resistance to abrasion. Safe for home laundry and light industrial laundering.

Yellow/Silver/Yellow
The yellow/silver/yellow striping is flame resistant and offers both daytime and nighttime visibility. Safe for home laundry and light industrial laundering.

THE THREAT

ARC FLASH:
An electrical arc flash produces one of the highest temperatures on earth, around 35,000 degrees Fahrenheit, which is almost four times the temperature of the sun's surface. Similar to a lightening strike, an arc flash is violent and the intense heat causes the sudden expansion of air which results in a pressure blast. It vaporizes all known materials which can rapidly expand. - Each day over five people are admitted to burn centers due to electrical arc flash.

FLASH FIRE:
A flash fire typically lasts less than three seconds and is defined as a rapidly moving flame front, which expands outward, generating temperatures from 1000 to 1900°F. For a flash fire to occur there must be an ignition source and a hydrocarbon or combustible gaseous cloud. The intensity of the flash fire depends upon the size of the combustible cloud, but does not necessarily produce a large pressure blast. Flash fire is of particular concern to oil, gas and petrochemical workers, but is also a threat when materials like coal, dust or grain concentrate the air. - Untreated cotton or wool can and will continue to burn. The heavier the fabric the more fuel for the fire.

CODE COMPLIANCE

OSHA:
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is a government agency which sets minimum requirements for work place safety. Compliance with OSHA is not an option and they have the authority to issue costly citations to companies, managers and workers who are not in compliance with OSHA mandates. OSHA makes it the employer's responsibility to have policies and guidelines in place regarding selection, purchase and use of protective clothing for employees.
OSHA states: "The employer shall ensure that each employee who is exposed to the hazards of flames or electric arc does not wear clothing that, when exposed to flames or electric arcs, could increase the extent of the injury that would be sustained by the employee" - OSHA 1910.269

NESC 2007:
For linemen and power generation employees, the idea of not working on or near energized parts is impractical or impossible. This is why most utilities have not adopted, or are exempt, from complying with NFPA 70e. The National Electrical Safety Code (NESC 2007) addresses the need for work practices and PPE for electrical generation, distribution and communication workers. The code requires workers to wear flame resistant clothing with an appropriate arc rating. Nylon and other synthetic blends are not allowed and the code emphasizes the use of multiple layers as opposed to one thick layer of FR material
