Ground / Jumper Assembly Tester
 |
This tester is designed to test in-service grounding and jumpering cable assemblies intact. Regular use of the tester will ensure that the jumper assemblies perform as required for personnel safety. IMPORTANT NOTE: This tester does not test insulative value of jacketed cables
- Tester is completely self contained, portable
and sets up in seconds. Any standard 120 volt grounded outlet will
provide power to the tester
- A reference chart is provided for No., 2 Str.
Cu., 1/0 Str. Cu., 2/0 Str. Cu., and 4/0 Str. Cu., cables of specific
length to determine the correct test values
- A built in digital volt meter allows the
operator to easily input the correct voltage specified on the reference
chart for various sizes and lengths of cable
- The digital readout ammeter is also built in
and tells the operator if the assembly is in good working condition. If
not, the jumper must be disassembled for cleaning connections and
clamps. Any defects must be corrected before assembly is re-tested and
returned to service
- A 5/8" solid copper bar is provided for
attaching clamps. The bar is easily removed for transporting or
replacement
- Maximum voltage output is limited to protect the operator

Hot Line Indicators
 |
- Hastings now offers hot line indicators for
both distrbution and transmission use
- Both models verify line conditions/voltage
prior to use with an audible signal plus flashing lights
- The audible signal is 90 decibels, and banks of
red lights flash intermttently to warn the operator of voltage potential
- Both units incorporate a single push button
on-switch that is timer operated and will automatically shut the unit
off after a period of inactvity
- Each time the hot line indicator is turned on,
each model will run through a pre-programmed test cycle and a green
light pilot light will remain on, indicating theunit is operating
properly
- The "distrbution" model 6701 includes a wide
range of pre-set voltage levels, (600V, 2000V, 7000V, 11000V) which
assist the operator in determining whether full line voltage or a lesser
voltage is present
- The transmission model is for voltage ranges
from 69KV to 500KV
- Both units include 2" diameter hook for
contacting conductor and switchgear. Each unit comes with a universal
fitting and must be attached to an approved hot stick or hot line tool
before use
- Carrying case included
- Operates on 9 volt battery (included)
- Bushing adapters available for 6701 model andURD application

Digital High/Low Voltage Phasing Meter
 |
Phase Tell II
- Instrument for measuring overhead and
underground voltages up to and including 20 KV. Note: the Phase Tell II
can be used on voltages up to 80 KV with the use of add on extension
resistors listed below
- Unique circuitry gives phase to phase or phase
to ground readings with 3-1/2 digits which are 1/2" high. The meter
reads in 10 volt increments for maximum accuracy, example: a 12,470 volt
system, phase to phase would read 12.47 on the meter
- Low voltage resolution capabilities allows the
Phase Tell II to be used on secondary voltages, ie; 120/240, 240/480 and
other low value potential differences that existing analog meters may
not be used on
- Digital display reads directly in kilovolts
with 3-1/2 digits 1/2" high on sharp contrast liquid crystal display.
Readout is given to nearest 10 volts.
- The digital display has a lighted background
that can be switched on by the operator, if needed during use in poor
light conditions. The meter is solid state design and eliminates
problems associated with analog meters
- The unit is powered by a readily available
9-volt battery and is field replaceable. If a low battery condition
exists, it will be indicated on the display. Meter shuts off
automatically after 10 minutes without contacting live voltage
- The coiled, self retracting cable is 16"
retracted and 10 ft. when fully extended. This design simplifies use of
the instrument
- Compact storage is provided by a rugged plastic
case 19"L x 7"W x 5.5"H. The case will also accomodate a pair of add-on
resistor extensions
- The meter and coiled cable is attached to two 1-1/4" dia. x 12" long fiberglass sticks. Female universal splines are provided on one end to allow attachment on all universal hot sticks. One conductor hook is 2" dia. and one is 2-1/2" dia. Straight probe is provided on other ends.

D.C. HiPot Adapter and Phase Tell Tester
 |
Above: top two images - HiPot Adapter and illustration showing correct usage
bottom row: Phase Tell Tester (left) and Phase Tell Tester in use (right) |
The DC HiPot adapter is an encapsulated high voltage rectifier for use on the Hastings Cat. No. 6702 Phase Tell Meter. When used in conjunction with the Phase Tell, it will enable the operator to perform the following tests on systems up to and including 35KV phase to phase:
- Test section of underground cables to determine
the integrity of insulation, ie., failed cables
- Determine if all grounds have been removed after completion of working on a de-energized underground system
- The HiPot adapter housing is fiberglass, 13" in
length. A bell shaped female end allows it to be coupled to the end of
the Phase Tell after the conductor hook is removed. The appropriate URD
bushing adapter can then be installed on the other end of the HiPot
adapter
- Convenient - more portable and easier to
operate than conventional cable testing equipment
- Safety - use of the DC HiPot adapter to test cables for faults eliminates undue stress on the cable insulation when used in conjunction with the Phase Tell
